FAQ

There’s a lot to consider before starting a new fitness programme, and you might have some questions. We’ve tried to answer some of the things that are most frequently asked here but of course if there is something else you’d like to ask, or you just want to chat something through, then please get in touch.

Am I too fat/unfit/old to have a Personal Trainer?

Most definitely not! The whole idea of working with us is to reach your own individual and specific
fitness goals. People of all ages, abilities and weights have trained with us and the sessions will be
designed specifically to your level and aims.

Part of training with us is to build confidence in yourself and your abilities (which will almost
certainly improve), we’ve worked with many nervous clients who start feeling “too fat/unfit/old” but
who quickly gain confidence and reap the benefits that a personal training programme has on both
physical and mental health.

I’ve had an injury/illness/just had a baby is it safe to train?

The beauty of working with a personal trainer, as opposed to joining a large class, is that every
session is individually designed for you and all exercises are undertaken under the guidance of a
trained professional who can ensure you are working in a way that takes account of any injury/
illness that you may have.

Your personal trainer at Blueprint is qualified to accept referrals from GPs and other healthcare
professionals such as physiotherapists, and is therefore specifically trained in dealing with clients with
a range of health conditions including muscular skeletal concerns, cardiac and pulmonary illness, through
to mental health issues.

My doctor has said I should exercise more to help with my health/diabetes/high blood pressure. Can you help?

Definitely. At Blueprint your personal trainer is qualified to accept direct referrals from GPs and to
work with patients who refer themselves on the advice of their doctor. Your trainer is also qualified
as a REPS Specialist Practitioner (the highest level) in delivering fitness programmes to those
suffering from obesity and diabetes.

All this training together with years of experience of working with clients with specific health
concerns means that we can offer safe and effective programmes of exercise that will have a big
impact on improving your health.

What makes training with Blueprint better/different than
any other group fitness classes or boot camps?

At Blueprint we offer you private and bespoke training where the quality of service is high. You will
get our undivided attention and we will ensure your personal workouts are varied and progressive to
continually challenge your body. Programmes with us are always changing and will get you interested
and focused. We also continually communicate with our clients to ensure that they are making the correct
lifestyle choices away from the gym and guide them and keep them motivated to stay on track.

Can I train with a friend/my partner if I want?

Yes. Check our services page for more details on small group training. Training with a friend or
partner means you can share the cost of sessions with them – we don’t charge extra. Also, it can
be great to have someone who is on the same journey as you to train with when you are not in
sessions with us.

Where can I train?

We can train you at your home, in our personal studio, in your local gym (if permitted) and from
time to time we also train clients outdoors where requested. We currently train clients in various
locations in Tiverton, Exeter and surrounds.

What should I wear?

Anything that is comfortable, does not restrict freedom of movement, and that doesn’t make you
too hot. Gym clothing or leisure wear such as jogging bottoms and T-shirt is suitable and we would
recommend trainers. You don’t have to go and buy the latest and most expensive gym gear.

Why do I need a Personal Trainer?

Working with a personal trainer is one of the most effective ways to improve your health and fitness
by making sure you stick to your exercise programme and reach your potential. Blueprint Health
and Fitness has many years of experience of working with clients from all backgrounds to reach
their goals. How do you know if hiring a personal trainer is the right choice for you? Consider the
following things we can do:

  1. Improve Your Overall Fitness. Surveys show the primary reason people hire personal trainers is
to get professional assistance to improve cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, endurance,
posture, balance and coordination. We will monitor your progress and fine-tune your program as
you go, helping you work your way off plateaus.
  2. Reach or Maintain a Healthy Weight. Body fat reduction, weight reduction or management, body
shaping and toning can all be achieved with the aid of a qualified personal trainer. We can help you
set realistic goals and determine safe strategies, all while providing the encouragement you need.
  3. Learn to Stick to It. Sticking with well-intentioned plans is one of the biggest challenges
exercisers face. We can provide motivation for developing a lifestyle that places a high priority on
    health and activity.
  4. Focus on Your Unique Health Concerns. With many clients having special medical needs, such
as arthritis, diabetes or obesity, we can work with your doctor, physical therapist or other health
care provider to plan a safe, efficient program that will speed your recovery or enable you to reach
    your health goals.
  5. Find the Right Way to Work Out. You will learn the correct way to use equipment, and
appropriate form and technique for cardiovascular work and weight training.
  6. Stop Wasting Time. Get maximum results in minimum time with a program designed specifically
for you. We will plan workouts that use your strengths and improve on your weaknesses.
  7. Learn New Skills. Want to improve your tennis game, learn to ski, golf like a pro? An
individualised program can improve your overall conditioning and develop the specific skills you
    need.
  8. Enhance Your Mind, Body and Spirit. We can act as a doorway to new personal growth
experiences and help you uncover new insights about yourself or find potential you didn’t realise
    you even had.
  9. Benefit From Having an “Exercise Buddy”. What could be better than making a commitment to
regularly meet with someone who will provide you with individualised attention and support?
  10. Take Charge of Your Program, and Do It Your Way. We will find the exercise program that
works best for you. Are you more comfortable with a demanding program or a gentler approach?
Would you like to train at home, in our private studio or at a fitness club? How many times per
week or month do you want to meet your personal trainer, and for how long? You can get fit and
healthy your way and take ultimate responsibility for your own health.

What type of things will I be doing during a session?

Each session will start with a warm up and the mobilisation of the major joints and muscles to be
used. Each session ends with a cool down period and some stretching. Sessions will be varied and
progressive and will include a mix of aerobic work (walking, jogging, running, stepping, skipping),
as well as resistance based exercises using your own body weight, free weights and resistance
bands. A very popular addition to our sessions is boxing for fitness which is a great way to
incorporate cardio, strength, agility and balance. Basically, your sessions will be tailored to your
tastes and goals and you won’t have to do any exercises that you really don’t like. The idea is to
make it enjoyable and fun.

What guarantees can you give me about the results I’ll see?

Every person’s body is different and responds to exercise differently. Typically within four weeks
clients can see a difference in their bodies but the only guarantee you have is the amount of
commitment you give yourself.

Your personal trainer will give you all the best tools to build the body you want and will always be
on hand for advice and to offer motivation and support (especially if you feel like you are losing
your way). Ultimately the more you put in the better your results will be.

How often should I train?

This is entirely up to you. If you want us to train with you 2-3 sessions a week we can, or if you
want 1 session a week with us we can give you advice on what you should be doing when you
train on your own.

Like most things in life, the more you put in the more you get out and it is advised that adults
should be exercising for a minimum of 150 minutes a week. This works out at a 30 minute session
5 days a week. Training with us for even 1 session a week will ensure you get a good 60 minutes
of targeted and focused exercise that will set you on the right path.

I’d like personal training but it’s expensive isn’t it and costs
a lot more than joining a gym?

We have a number of pricing plans and sessions can start from as little as £10-£15 if you split the
cost with friends. We also offer free sessions on all block bookings.

Personal Training is the best way to get the results you want, whether it’s a level of fitness you
aspire to or a change in your body shape. Some people compare the cost of training to a gym but
you have to ask yourself whether you are getting the results you require at the gym and what those
results would be worth to you. We often see clients who, for a variety of reasons, perhaps boredom
due to lack of progression or maybe simple lack of motivation, stop going to the gym after only a
few sessions. This is a far more expensive way to get fit and certainly less effective!

Other clients see the cost of a block of sessions as an investment, perhaps an alternative to a
weekend away or some other luxury purchase. We find that a high proportion of those who start
personal training stick with it so why not book in for a session and draw your own conclusion on the
value in personal training?

Can you help with nutrition?

Blueprint are fully committed to creating healthy lifestyles and know that nutrition plays a major role
in health and wellbeing. Proper nutrition also plays a key role in helping people to achieve their
goals whether they be weight loss or muscle gain. While working with your trainer you will discuss
your current eating habits and look at ways that these could be optimised to help you meet your
health and fitness goals. Your trainer is experienced and trained in providing nutritional advice and
understands that we all need to live a little and that getting that balance right is the key.

For clients looking for a more in-depth analysis of their diet and who would like more information on
tailored meal plans and their potential food sensitivities we offer a nutritional consultancy service
with a certified and insured nutritional therapist.

Can I only have a few sessions?

Yes you can. Sessions can be purchased on a individual basis and there is no obligation to sign up
for a set number. We do know that clients who sign up for a programme of sessions over a number
of months see the best results, although we are happy to work with you for as long or short a time
as you wish. Some clients see us on an ad-hoc basis to learn new things to take into the gym and
some have a few sessions grouped together for a specific event such as a competition or summer
holiday.

How do I book?

If you are interested in taking things further the best thing to do is contact us to arrange an initial
consultation. This session is completely free and with no obligation but gives us a chance to get to
know one another, talk about any specific goals or concerns you may have, and give you an
indication of your current fitness levels. You can find out more about the initial consultation in the
services section of our website.
